How To Make A Snow Queen Cake

This Snow Queen cake is one of the most popular cakes among little girls and is the perfect finishing touch to any princess party. Our easy to follow step by step guide will make you the most popular parent in town!

PME have a fantastic range of Doll Picks to choose from so you can even tailor-make your queen to suit your theme. Choose from a redhead, brunette and more, so replicating your little one's favourite royal character is easy!

Preparation:

Bake a 4" and 8" cake in your favourite recipe. Once cool split in half and fill with your favourite buttercream reserving enough to cover the cake once carved.

Instructions:
1 - Cover your cake card with greaseproof paper. With a little of your reserved buttercream sandwich the two cakes together so that the 4" cake is arranged off centre and meets the outer edge of the 8" cake. Once happy with your arrangement insert the doll pick towards the front.

For this cake you will need:

101 & 203mm (4”) & (8”) Round cakes
355mm (14”) Round Cake Card
1kg White Sugarpaste
50g White Gum Paste
500g Buttercream
PME Ocean Blue concentrated paste colour
PME Modelling Tools – Bulbulous Cone (PME9),
Quilting Tool (QT425) & Cutting Wheels (CW426)
PME Heart Nesting Cutter Set (PNH2)
PME Plunger Blossom Set (FB140)
PME Snowflake Plunger Set (SF708)
PME Doll Pick Blonde (DP200)

2 - Now we need to carve the cake to make the basic shape for the skirt. To do this use a serrated knife and trim the cake a little at a time until you are happy with your shape. Any large off cuts can be used to lengthen the skirt depending on the size of your cake card. Take the baking paper off your cake card and attached your carved cake using a little buttercream. Cover the cake with a thin layer of buttercream then wrap in clingfilm to prevent any crusting.

3 - To ice the skirt section we will be using sugarpaste coloured with Ocean Blue concentrated colour paste. Add a little colour paste at a time until you reach a shade of blue you're happy with, then roll out the sugarpaste fairly thin and cut out an oval shape using the cutting wheel tool. With the bulbulous cone tool create a frill to the outer edges by gently rolling your tool backwards and forwards over the paste.

4 - Place the sugarpaste strips to the cake starting at the back and in the centre.

5 - Keep adding strips of sugarpaste, making sure that all the cake underneath is completely hidden. Using your cutting wheel tool trim off any excess sugar paste from the waist area.

6 - To create the bodice of the dress roll out more blue sugarpaste and cut out hearts using the Heart Nesting Cutters. Attach the hearts to the Doll Pick one at the front and one at the back and add additional shapes to cover any gaps.

Tip: You can add extra detail using the quilting tool to replicate stitching.

7 - Decorate the skirt of the dress with gumpaste Snowflakes and Blossoms made using the Snowflake and Blossom Plunger Set.
